Why is your tag “Barnes”?
Mi colega Stoats me dio el nombre cuando quería cambiar las cosas en 2003 o así. Quería un nombre que empezara por la letra B y, en aquel momento, nadie estaba usando «Barnes», así que se quedó.
My homie Stoats gave me the name when I was looking to change things up back in 2003 or so. I wanted a name that started with the letter B and at the time, no one was rocking “Barnes”, so it stuck.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser un escritor de graffiti?
What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
Punk rock y mucho aburrimiento.
Punk rock and a whole lot of boredom.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Pinté mi primera «pieza» allá por el 96 y lo hice con botes que encontré en los garajes de mis amigos. Tenía como 15 años y nunca fui instruido por un colega mayor, así que era bastante malo. La pinté bajo un viejo puente en uno de mis lugares de pesca. Era un relleno rojo, naranja y blanco con un contorno blanco sobre hormigón crudo. Era un enorme lanzamiento que creo que decía «Sero». Probablemente me llevó más de 3 horas pintar y probablemente usé un rollo entero de una cámara desechable para documentar esta cosa. He aprendido mucho desde entonces.
I painted my first “piece” back in ‘96 and rocked it with cans I found in my friends’ garages. I was like 15 and never schooled by an older head, so it was pretty bad. I painted it under an old bridge at one of my fishing spots. It was a red, orange, and white fill with a white outline on raw concrete. It was a huge throwup that I think said “Sero”. It probably took me over 3 hours to paint and I probably used an entire roll on a disposable camera to document this thing. I have learned a lot since then.

Por supuesto. El Graffiti en Seúl está mejorando cada año desde que las pinturas europeas llegaron hace 5 o 6 años. La escena comenzó en Corea más o menos a finales de los años 90 con algunos pioneros como VANDAL, PICASSO, HUDINI, y otros, pero se mantuvo en calma durante años. Recientemente ha golpeado el mainsteam y se está volviendo mucho más popular en los medios de comunicación. La escena sigue siendo bastante pequeña y el respeto se basa en la edad, como dice la filosofía confuciana. No hay mucha carnaza dandole y los escritores que están en el juego son realmente buenas personas en su mayor parte. Hay un montón de talento aquí.
Sure. Graffiti in Seoul is getting better each year since European paints arrived 5 or 6 years ago. The scene started in Korea more or less in the mid to late 90s with some pioneers like VANDAL, PICASSO, HUDINI, and a bunch others, but remained quiet for years. It recently hit the mainsteam and is becoming much more popular in the media. The scene here is still pretty small though and respect is heavily based on age as the Confucian philosophy dictates. There’s not a lot of beef and writers in the game are all really good people for the most part. There’s a lot of talent here.

What do you like the most about graffiti that keeps you doing it?
Simplemente me hace sentir bien. Hay una gran parte de mí que lo necesita y termina por consumir mucho de mi tiempo creativo y libre como resultado, que tiene sus altibajos.
It just makes me feel good. There’s a big part of me that needs it and it winds up consuming a lot of my creative and free time as a result, which has its ups and downs.
