Why is your tag BEAT?
Cuando comencé con el Graffiti a mediados / finales de los noventa, probe con varios nombres. A partir del dos mil me centré en escribir BEAT, fue solo por las letras. Me gustan mucho.
When I started Graffiti in the mid/endnighnties I wrote several different names. Beginning of the twothousands I focussed on wrinting BEAT, it was just because of the letters. I really like them.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser un escritor de graffiti?
What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
Crecí en Alemania del Este, en mi ciudad natal Dresden. Así que el Graffiti en realidad comenzó allí después de la caída del muro de Berlín. Entonces, cuando era pequeño, me puse en contacto con el graffiti a mediados de los noventa y estaba me fascinaba verlo. Tarde como aproximadamente 2 años observándolo, me gustaba hacer fotos de otros graffitis y dibujar hasta que salí a hacerlo de la misma manera.
I grew up in East-Germany – in my home town Dresden. So Graffiti actually started there after the fall of the Berlin wall. So when I was a kid I got in touch with graffiti around the midnighnties and I was really fascinated of these. It took about 2 years of watching, taking photos of other graffities and sketching until I went out to do it the same way.
¿Qué tratas de decir con tus graffitis?
What do you try to say with your graffiti?
No hay un mensaje más profundo. Para mí, el graffiti pertenece a mi «equilibrio de vida» personal. Y está relacionado con los viajes y el contacto con lugares y personas de todo el mundo que no conocía cuando no era escritor de graffiti.
There is no deeper message. For me, graffiti belongs to my personal “life balance”. And it is related to travel, and getting in touch with places and people around the globe I wouldn´t have met when I wouldn´t be a graffiti writer.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Contrastes simples, divertidos, coloridos y de color sobre todo. Desde mi punto de vista, las letras de un graffiti deben ser legibles. Y eso es todo sobre el funk.
Simple, funky, colorful, color contrasts. From my point of view the letters of a graffiti should be readable. And it´s all about the funkyness.
¿Nos podrias contar como es un dia normal durante tu semana?
Would you mind telling us how is your normal day during the week?
Bueno, desde hace 18 meses estoy en un club de papás. Significa, además de trabajar, estoy tratando de pasar la mayor parte de mi tiempo libre con mis 2 mujeres, y cuando queda algo de tiempo, intento pintar tan a menudo como sea posible.
Well, since around 16 months I´m in the daddy club. Means, beside of working I´m trying to spend most of my sparetime with my 2 ladies, and when there is some time left, I´m trying to paint as often as it is possible.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Bueno, fue en 1997, después de dibujar durante 2 años en casa, tuve la oportunidad de pintar una pared pequeña al lado de mi colegio. Hubo otros chicos que también pintaron. Fue una experiencia increíble para mí, pero por supuesto fue una pieza horrible. No hice foto, pero fue la primera pieza que pinté con botes de aerosol reales y me inspiró a seguir y me trajo a donde estoy hoy.
Well, it was 1997 after I was sketching for about 2 years at home, I got the chance to paint a small wall next to my school. There were some other guys which were painting as well. It was an amazing experience for me, but of course it was a horrible piece. I didn´t take a photo of it, but it was the first piece I ever painted with real spray cans and it inspired me to keep on it and brought me where I am today.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti que te mantiene haciendolo?
What do you like the most about graffiti that keeps you doing it?
Viajar y conocer nuevos lugares y personas.
Traveling, and meeting new places and people.
¿Cuál es tu crew?
What is your crew?
Es «SML» y fue fundada por RAIN y BOOGIE en 1997. En contraste con muchas otras crews, la SML fue fundada, y se basa hasta hoy, en amistad, no en escritores «famosos» que deberían unirse, para poder hacer famosa a la crew. Así que somos amigos cercanos que nos conocemos desde hace muchos años. No todos los miembros siguen activos de la misma manera que hace 10 años, pero la amistad todavía está cerca.
It is “SML” and it was founded by RAIN and BOOGIE in 1997. In contrast to many other crews, the SML was founded – and is based until today – on friendship – not on “famous” writers who should join, in order to push the crew. So we are close friends knowing each other for many years. Not all of the members are still active in a way like 10 years ago, but friendship still is close.
¿Cuál es tu trabajo real?
What is your real job?
Estoy trabajando en la industria del software. El Graffiti es probablemente mi mayor amor junto a mi esposa y mi hija, pero nunca fue mi objetivo vivir del graffiti. Hay cientos y miles de escritos de graffiti que merecen vivir del graffiti por darle duro.
I´m working in the software industries. Graffiti is probably my biggest love beside my wife and my daughter, but it never was my aim to live by doing graffiti. There are hundreds and thousands of graffiti writes who deserve more to do so.
