¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonyme come from?
En realidad, no es un apodo, se trata de mi apellido, comencé pintando graffiti en el 2000 adoptando el tag de Meta49 durante 15 años, pero hace unos años decidí optar por usar mi nombre y apellido reales para presentarme. Mi trabajo ha ido cambiando hacia formatos diferentes al graffiti, sobre todo hacia la obra gráfica y el grabado y los trabajos de muralismo que ahora realizo ya no los encuadraría dentro de lo que yo consideraría graffiti (piezas, trenes, firmar, hacer murales con mi crew…).
Tengo claro que provengo del graffiti, lo respeto muchísimo y tengo una idea clara de lo que significa para mí. Por eso consideré que mi actividad como escritor de graffiti estaba en pausa hacía tiempo y decidí dejar de usar mi tag de escritor, en mis trabajos actuales.
Actually, it’s not a nickname, it’s my last name. I started painting graffiti in 2000 adopting pseudonyme Meta49 for 15 years, but a few years ago I decided to opt for using my real name and surname to introduce myself. My work has been changing towards formats different from graffiti, especially towards graphic work and engraving, and the mural works I now do would no longer fit into what I would consider graffiti (pieces, trains, signing, doing murals with my crew…).
It is clear to me that I come from graffiti, I respect it very much and I have a clear idea of what it means to me. That’s why I considered that my activity as a graffiti writer was in pause for a long time and I decided to stop using my writer’s tag, in my current works.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Comencé a pintar graffiti en el año 2000 en Plasencia (Cáceres), un principio, lo que me impulsó era la idea de poder expresarme libremente en un espacio público y sobre un lienzo enorme. Aquel impulso se convirtió en amistades, aventuras, divertirnos, salir a pintar, comentar las jugadas, viajar a otras ciudades y conocer otros escritores, el Wanted, las fotos…
Ahora con mi edad, la motivación es diferente. La ciudad, el barrio, la población y el espacio donde voy a trabajar son fundamentales, quiero que mis trabajos tengan relación con el entorno donde se encuentre pintada, que esté cerca de los vecinos que vean la obra todos los días, que les transmita algo real, la hagan propia y que la recuerden cuando desaparezca.
I started painting graffiti in 2000 in Plasencia (Cáceres), at first, what drove me was the idea of being able to express myself freely in a public space and on a huge canvas. That impulse turned into friendships, adventures, having fun, going out to paint, commenting on the plays, travelling to other cities and meeting other writers, the Wanted, the photos…
Nowadays at my age, the motivation is different. The city, the neighbourhood, the population and the space where I am going to work are fundamental. I want my work to be related to the environment where it is painted, to be close to the neighbours who see the work every day, to transmit something real to them, to make it their own and to remember it when it disappears.

What do you try to say with your artworks?
En mi trabajo actual siempre hay un trasfondo crítico y social, ligado a la actualidad y el espacio donde se enmarque la obra. Cada trabajo es diferente, aunque suelo utilizar la naturaleza como hilo conductor que transporte el mensaje que quiera lanzar.
In my current work there is always a critical and social background, linked to the present and the space where the work is framed. Each work is different, although I usually use nature as a thread that transports the message I want to launch.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Hoy en día diría que hago algún tipo de ilustración realista… no se…, herencia de mis años en el graffiti pero la verdad es que un estilo ahora ya no es tan fácil de definir.
Antes, cuando pintaba piezas, mi estilo era wildstyle europeo; piezas compactas, modernas, letras con formas suaves y curvas.
Nowadays I would say that I do some kind of realistic illustration… I don’t know…, inherited from my years in graffiti but the truth is that a style now is not so easy to define.
Before, when I painted pieces, my style was European wildstyle; compact, modern pieces, letters with soft and curved shapes.

Me parece bien. Este tipo de espacios en internet creo que son la evolución natural de los fanzines en papel. Un buen sitio donde un editor ofrece una selección de escritores y muralistas con criterio, sin tener que pasar horas rascando hastags en Instagram sin ningún filtro.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Claro. Fue en junio de 2000, en mi ciudad (Plasencia) con 17 años. A las 11 de la noche a unos 5m. en una cornisa de un Parking. Hice una pieza amarilla con 3D azul y trazada con negro que ponía MASS. Con los amigos mirando desde abajo y los vecinos mirando en las ventanas.
No tenía ninguna sensación de peligro, en aquellos años el graffiti en mi ciudad era algo minoritario, se me terminó un color y tuve que volver la noche siguiente, recuerdo que cuando terminé hasta aplaudieron. Me consta que aun se conserva pintada aquella pieza pintada con botes de un bazar chino…
Sure. It was in June 2000, in my city (Plasencia) with 17 years. At 11 o’clock at night at about 5m. in a cornice of a parking. I made a yellow piece with blue 3D and traced with black that said MASS. With the friends looking from below and the neighbors looking in the windows.
I didn’t have any sense of danger, in those years graffiti in my city was a minority, I ran out of one color and had to go back the next night, I remember that when I finished they even applauded. I know that that piece painted with boats from a Chinese bazaar is still there…
