Hola, mi nombre es Coar, soy de Londres, Inglaterra, he estado pintando piezas durante unos 7 años de forma intermitente ahora.
Hi, my name is Coar, I’m from London, England, I’ve been painting pieces for about 7 years on and off now.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Me aficioné al graffiti cuando era niño y andaba en monopatín por toda la ciudad, me encantaba verlo en todos los sitios a los que iba, pero me fijaba en algunos nombres que ya había visto antes, entonces me hizo pensar que es una forma guay (probablemente muy inmadura) de dejar tu huella, así que a partir de ahí me aficioné al tagging y empecé a hacer piezas años más tarde.
I got into graffiti through skateboarding all around the city as a kid, I’d loved seeing it at all the spots I went to, but I would notice some names I’d seen before, then it made me think it’s a cool (probably very immature) way of leaving your mark so from there I got into tagging and got into doing pieces years later.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Realmente no sé cómo etiquetar mi estilo, ¿estilo suave? Me gusta cambiar las cosas de vez en cuando. Hago muchos estilos de la vieja escuela con influencias alemanas y europeas, y recientemente he vuelto a mis influencias de la vieja escuela neoyorquina.
I don’t really know what to label my style, mild style? I like to switch things up every now and then, I do a lot of old school German/European influenced styles and recently going back to my old school New York influences.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Mi primera pieza, lo recuerdo, fue en mi ciudad natal en 2015, las letras eran tan malas, no sabía mucho sobre cómo hacer una pieza en ese momento, entonces otra vez ¿quién hace una increíble primera pieza?
My first piece, I remember it, it was in my hometown in 2015, the letters were so bad, I didn’t know much about how to do a piece at the time, then again who does an amazing first piece?
¿Por que pintas?
Why do you usually paint?
Pinto porque me relaja, es una forma estupenda de desconectar un rato de todo lo que pasa en tu vida, sólo estáis tú y la obra, nada más importa en ese momento, es como una especie de meditación, por supuesto me encanta salir con mis compañeros y amigos, ¡pintar y tomar cervezas! Pinto letras sobre todo porque tienes libertad para jugar con sus formas, puedes añadirles aún más, hacerlas más distorsionadas; con las caras tienes que ceñirte relativamente a las mismas formas/características o no se parecerán mucho a una cara.
I paint because I find it relaxing, it’s a great way to switch off for a bit from everything going on in your life, it’s just you and the piece, nothing else matters at that time, it’s like a kind of meditation, of course I love to hang out with my crew mates and friends, paint and beers! I paint letters primarily because you’re free to play around with the shapes of the letters, then you can add even more to them, make them more distorted, with faces you kind of have to stick to relatively the same shapes/features or it won’t look much like a face.

En primer lugar, quiero dar las gracias a mi compañero de crew y hermano Chips DvK, por enseñarme tanto y por ser una de las mejores personas que he conocido, así como al resto de DvK y a mi familia de TME. Sólo una nota rápida para cualquiera que esté empezando y que pueda estar leyendo esto: ¡haced muchos bocetos! Todos los días si podéis, aunque sean 20 minutos, estudiad a vuestros escritores favoritos, jugad con diferentes formas cuando dibujéis, y con el tiempo lo conseguiréis. Paz.

I want to first give a big shout out to my crew mate and brother Chips DvK, for teaching me so much and being all round one of the best people I’ve ever met, also shout out and love to the rest of DvK and my TME family! Just a quick note for anyone starting out that may be reading this, sketch a lot! Everyday if you can, even if it’s for 20 minutes, study all your favourite writers, play around with different shapes when you sketch, and with time you will get there. Peace!
