¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Al principio (hacia 1985) elegí naturalmente nombres del Subwayart como DOZE o CRASH… Como mi mentor de Zurich se llamaba CRAZY PAINT, le puse un CRAZY delante, así que CRAZY CRASH se convirtió en CRAZY CRUZE (porque probablemente sonaba parecido a DOZE) y en algún momento eliminé el CRAZY.
In the beginning (around 1985) I naturally took names from the Subwayart such as DOZE or CRASH… Because my mentor from Zurich was called CRAZY PAINT, I put a CRAZY in front, so CRAZY CRASH became CRAZY CRUZE (because it probably sounded similar to DOZE) and at some point the CRAZY was dropped.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Naturalmente, me fascinaba toda la ola del break dance y también era una época en la que la gente buscaba una escena a la que pertenecer. Cuando se emitió WILD STYLE en televisión (1983), me di cuenta de que no se trataba sólo de break dance, sino que había toda una escena detrás. Entonces tuve claro que había encontrado algo que me fascinaba por completo.
I was naturally fascinated by the whole break dance wave and it was also a time when people were looking for a scene to belong to. When WILD STYLE was broadcast on TV (1983), I realized that it wasn’t just about break dancing, but that there was a whole scene behind it. So it was clear to me that I had found something that completely fascinated me.

What is your style?
Mi estilo está definitivamente influenciado por París, como Mode2 (personajes) y Bando, así como por otros miembros del equipo de TCA.
My style was definitely influenced by Paris, like Mode2 (Characters) and Bando, as well as others in the TCA crew.

Estos proyectos siempre me parecen interesantes. Antes, los bocetos copiados se enviaban por correo, luego vinieron las revistas y cuando llegó Internet podías llegar con ellos a todo el mundo.
I always find such projects interesting. In the past, copied sketches were sent by post, then came magazines and when the Internet came along you could reach the whole world with them.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Sí, claro. Eso fue en 1986, y en algún momento hice mi primera foto con KYNE (KC) utilizando botes que habíamos robado del sótano de mi vecino. También había Krylons, pero la selección de colores era muy escasa. Como tenía 12 años y no me era posible salir del apartamento del 5º piso por la noche sin que se dieran cuenta, la obra tenía que pintarse ilegalmente a las 8 de la tarde, ya que yo tenía que estar en casa a una hora determinada. Quedé con KYNE delante del muro en el actual «Chinawiese» y, teniendo en cuenta que era mi primera pieza, la terminamos relativamente rápido. KYNE ya había tenido su primera experiencia con el spray. Resultó que el color negro del contorno sólo era suficiente para la K de Kyne y mi C quedó con contornos blancos. Por suerte, KYNE pudo hacerse con una lata negra un poco más tarde para poder terminar mis contornos en negro. Por eso hay dos fotos de eso, una con contornos blancos y otra con contornos negros. Para nosotros era importante que hubiéramos pintado en un lugar ilegal del Salón de la Fama, donde regularmente se pintaban cosas nuevas.
Yes, of course. That was in 1986, and at some point I took my first picture with KYNE (KC) using cans that we had stolen from my neighbor’s basement. There were also Krylons, but the color selection was very sparse. As I was 12 years old and it was not possible for me to leave the apartment on the 5th floor at night without being noticed, the piece had to be painted illegally at 8pm in the evening, as I had to be home at a certain time. I met KYNE in front of the wall at the current “Chinawiese” and, considering that it was my first piece, we finished it relatively quickly. KYNE had already had his first spraycan experience. It ended up that the black outline color was only enough for Kyne’s K and my C got white outlines. Luckily KYNE was able to get hold of a black can a little later so that he could finish my outlines in black. That’s why there are two photos of this picture, one with white and one with black outlines. It was important to us that we had painted the picture at an illegal Hall of Fame spot, where new pictures were regularly being painted.

Hoy puedo echar la vista atrás a 40 años de carrera y por eso llevo más de 5 años escaneando y archivando mi trabajo, escribiendo textos sobre estos años y ahora por fin he terminado mi libro sobre los últimos 40 años en 400 páginas y lo he hecho imprimiendo en una edición limitada de 500 ejemplares.
Para tenerlo todo en mis manos como un todo y también como agradecimiento a todos los que me han inspirado y apoyado.
Today I can look back on 40 years of my graffiti career and that is why I have been scanning and archiving my work for over 5 years, writing texts about these years and have now finally finished my book about the last 40 years on 400 pages and had it printed in an edition of 500 copies.
