¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
De niño tenia pelo a lo afro, un día jugando al baloncesto en el parque mi colega «PC/ Problem Child» empezó a llamarme «Disco», el nombre se quedó y fue mi primera firma real. Un par de años después me enteré de que otros «Disco» habían escrito antes que yo, incluido «DISCO DAN» R.I.P., así que por respeto a ellos lo cambié. Me gustó mucho el DIS- así que añadí el EM y me salió «DISEM» – DISS THEM. El 305 es el código del área de Miami.
As a kid I had an Afro, one day playing basketball at the park my homie “PC/ Problem Child” started calling me “Disco” the name stuck and it was my first real tag. A couple of years later I learned about a few other “Disco”’s that had been writing way before me including “DISCO DAN” R.I.P. so out of respect for them i changed it. I really liked the DIS- so I added the EM and came up with “DISEM” – DISS THEM. The 305 is Miami’s Area code.

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Llevo toda la vida dedicado al arte. Mis padres se conocieron en una universidad de arte en Panamá, y mi madre y varios miembros de mi familia son artistas. Pero en lo que respecta a la escritura, mi primo mayor solía escribir «Gare/ Fresh». Le admiré durante gran parte de mi infancia y, naturalmente, al estar metido en el arte, una vez que empezó a escribir, le seguí la corriente y me contagió la fiebre. No he parado desde entonces.
I’ve been into art my whole life. My parents met at an art university in Panama, and my mother and multiple family members are artists. But as far as Writing, my older cousin used to write “Gare/ Fresh” . I looked up to him for a large part of my childhood and naturally being into art once he started writing I just tagged along and caught the fever. haven’t stopped since.

¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
No estoy seguro de cómo llamar a mi estilo. Definitivamente, estoy influenciada por mi ciudad, Miami, y creo que eso se refleja en todo lo que hago, desde los colores que utilizo hasta el estilo de las letras. Una vez alguien lo llamó bonito y arenoso y me gustó. Trato de jugar con el equilibrio del Graffiti en su núcleo (letras, throwups, tags) y mezclar eso con el realismo o el trabajo de retrato pintado más clásico.
I’m not sure what to call my style. I’m definitely influenced by my City Miami, I think that comes across heavily in everything I do from the colors I use to the letter styles. I had someone call it pretty and gritty once and I liked that. I try to play with the balance of Graffiti at its core (lettering, throwups, tags) and mix that with realism or more classically painted portrait work.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Mi memoria apesta. Pero recuerdo algunos de los primeros, tal vez 1998/1999 todo krylons tratando de ejecutar las líneas limpias con los negros ultra plana y no saber que cojones que estaba haciendo. pero el error de ensayo y la coherencia me dieron todos los frutos en el tiempo. Mi estilo sin duda ha cambiado pero creo que la esencia siempre se ha mantenido, siempre me ha gustado experimentar con cosas diferentes y trato de evolucionar siempre ya que me canso de hacer la misma mierda fácilmente.
My memory sucks. But i do remember some of the first ones, maybe 1998/1999 all krylons trying to run clean lines with ultra flat blacks and not knowing wtf i was doing. but trial error and consistency all pay off in due time. My style has without a doubt changed but I think the essence has always remained, I’ve always liked to experiment with different things and I try to always evolve as I get tired of the doing same shit easily.
