Fio Silva es un apodo de mi nombre completo que es Fiorela Silva.
Fio Silva is a nickname for my full name which is Fiorela Silva.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Empecé a pintar en la calle a los 20 años. Una amiga mía me regaló tres aerosoles Montana 94 para mi cumpleaños, y salí a pintar en el espacio público. En ese momento yo estaba estudiando en la Universidad de Buenos Aires la carrera de Diseño de Imagen y Sonido, pero no me sentía del todo a gusto con ello. Me gustaba dibujar y pintar y cuando salí a pintar al barrio encontré una actividad que sentí propia y que me daba una cercanía con mi lugar, los vecinos y conocer gente. Una excusa para comunicarme de otra manera.
I started painting in the street when I was 20 years old. A friend of mine gave me three Montana 94 aerosols for my birthday, and I went out to paint in public spaces. At that time I was studying Image and Sound Design at the University of Buenos Aires, but I didn’t feel completely at ease with it. I liked drawing and painting and when I went out to paint in the neighbourhood I found an activity that I felt was my own and that gave me a closeness to my place, to my neighbours and to meet people. An excuse to communicate in a different way.

What is your style?
Comencé pintando con spray pero muy pronto seguí haciéndolo con pintura acrílica y brochas. Me gusta trabajar con colores primarios y armar los tonos en la pared.
Me gusta tratar de representar una sensación de fuerza y movimiento a través de pájaros, animales y figuras orgánicas.
I started painting with spray paint but soon moved on to acrylic paint and brushes. I like to work with primary colours and build up the tones on the wall.
I like to try to represent a sense of strength and movement through birds, animals and organic figures.

Agradezco mucho la participación en este tipo de proyectos ya que siempre es bueno poder compartir tu trabajo y más aún junto a tantos otros artistas y gente del oficio.
I am very grateful to participate in this kind of projects as it is always good to be able to share your work and even more so with so many other artists and people of the trade.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Si recuerdo mi primera pieza, fue en el centro de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, en una pequeña plaza junto al autopista. Pinte un árbol con spray, solo negro y verde. Recuerdo que quedó bastante feo, pero yo me sentí muy bien jajaj.
If I remember my first piece, it was in the centre of Buenos Aires, in a small square next to the motorway. I spray painted a tree, just black and green. I remember it was quite ugly, but I felt very good hahahah.
Y para terminar ¿algo que quieras decir?

Pintar en el espacio público de los mejores lugares para expresarse, es de todos y cuando la gente se siente muy feliz o muy triste va a la calle, se junta, se hace colectivo. Creo que el espacio público es en gran parte un reflejo de cómo somos como sociedad.
Painting in public street is one of the best places to express oneself, it belongs to everyone and when people feel very happy or very sad they go to the street, they get together, they become a collective. I think that public street is to a large extent a reflection of how we are as a society.
