¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Nada en particular… Tuve varios apodos desde el día en que empecé a pintar graffiti, pero encontré ROOBLE, alrededor de 2005. Lo elegí, como todos los apodos que recibí, porque solía pintar letras primero, por el estilo y el equilibrio de las letras. Y ya está. Se convirtió en Jean Rooble con el tiempo, creo que con el uso de las sociales: realmente se convirtió en una segunda personalidad, una manera de permitirse tener 2 vidas paralelas. Lo encuentro muy conveniente.
Nothing particular… I had several pseudos since the day I started painting graffiti, but I found ROOBLE, around 2005. I chose it, like every pseudos I took, because I used to work letters first, because of the style and the balance of the letters. That’s it! It became Jean Rooble with the time, I think with the use of the socials : it really became a second personality, a way of being allowed to have 2 parallel lifes. I find it quite convenient.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Siempre he dibujado, desde niño… Y un día, en el instituto, sobre los 15 años, un amigo me enseñó la foto de una conocida fábrica abandonada, y me quedé alucinado con los frescos, y quise verlos, y descubrir cómo estaban hechos… Así que poco a poco fui entendiendo los tags, y los graffitis que no veía a mi alrededor, entonces conocí a algunos chicos más jóvenes ya infestados por el germen del graffiti y empecé de verdad sobre los 18 años, queriendo poner mi marca en las calles y desarrollar mi propio estilo.
I always have been drawing, since childhood… And one day, at high school, around 15 yo, a friend show me picture of a well know abandoned factory, and I stayed amazed with the frescoes, and wanted to see them, and discover how they was done… So I slowly understood tags, and graffitis I didn’t noticed all around me, then I met some younger guys already infected by graffiti culture and I really started around 18 yo, wanting to put my mark on the streets and develop my own style.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Soy un pintor realista o fotorrealista. Mi estilo es una combinación de usar mis propias fotos (de encuentros significativos), pintar con pintura en aerosol, a mano alzada, empujando los detalles hacia adelante gracias a las boquillas y a las plantillas (hechas en casa) (suena realmente mentalidad de la vieja escuela), con el objetivo de interactuar con la gente y ser un artista y ser humano de mente abierta, tolerante y militante.
I’m a realistic, or photorealistic painter. My style is a combination of using my own pictures (from meaningful encounters), painting with spray paint, free handed, pushing details forward thanks to (homemade) stencil caps (it sounds really old school mindset), aiming to interact with the people and being an open-minded, tolerant and militant artist and human being.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Tuve un primer intento en 1998, en un almacén abandonado cerca del apartamento de mis padres, pero mi primera obra de verdad fue en el verano de 1999, junto al joven grupo 2BR, que se convertiría en mi primer grupo de graffiti. Era una pieza a plata, con letras de imprenta de mierda, en la parte derecha de la ciudad de Burdeos, que era un montón de lugares abandonados y desguaces, antes de los recientes cambios… ¡Todavía puedo sentir el calor, la tensión e incluso el olor del lugar! Es un bonito primer recuerdo, y lo divertido es que actualmente vivo con mi familia, muy cerca de este lugar… Y la zona sigue cambiando, pero conserva algunos vestigios de esta época…
I had a first try in 1998, in an abandoned storage building near my parent’s apartment, but my first real piece was in summer 1999, alongside the young 2BR crew, which will became my first graffiti crew. It was a chrome piece, shitty block letters, on the right-side of Bordeaux city, which was a bunch of abandoned places and scrapyards, before the recent changes… I still can feel the heat, the tension and even the smell of the place! It’s a beautiful first memory, and the fun fact is that I’m currently living with my family, very near this place… And the area is still changing but keeping some traces of this era…
