¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Viene de la combinación de la primera letra de mi nombre, que junto con mi apellido forma Jerny, que tiene el fonema de la palabra viaje, haciendo referencia a mi viaje como artista.
It comes from the combination of the first letter of my first name, which together with my surname forms Jerny, which has the phoneme of the word journey, making a reference to my journey as an artist.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Desde niña me ha apasionado expresarme a través del arte. Durante muchos años, en mi tiempo libre, me dediqué a dibujar cuando podía, sobre todo con pasteles de tiza sobre papel. Cuando me mudé a Sao Paulo, mi mente se abrió a la idea del arte callejero. Las calles de Sao Paulo están repletas de obras de artistas de gran talento. Descubrí que mi pasión crecía aún más cuando empecé a utilizar la calle como lienzo. La dinámica es poderosa, es estimulante crear imágenes que se comunican directamente con un público tan amplio y variado, y transformar un espacio público en algo más que muros y barreras.
I have always had a passion for expressing myself through art since I was a child. Over many years I dabbled when I could in my free time, mostly working with chalk pastel on paper. It was when I moved to Sao Paulo that my mind was opened to the idea of street art, The streets of Sao Paulo are teeming with work from so many talented artists. I found that my passion grew even more when I started using the street as my canvas. The dynamic is powerful, it’s exhilarating to create imagery that communicates directly with such a wide and varied audience, and to transform a public space into something more than just walls and barriers.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del arte urbano y lo que menos?
What do you like most about street art and what do you like least?
Me encantan el encanto y los retos de trabajar en lugares específicos. Cada nuevo muro tiene sus excentricidades, y es muy gratificante estudiar un lugar, conocer una comunidad, a veces otra cultura, y aportar algo a ese lugar concreto. También adoro la naturaleza del trabajo en sí, me encanta trabajar en las alturas, subirme a los andamios o manejar la maquinaria, estar en las alturas y tener esa vista de águila del entorno. No sé si hay algo que no me guste del arte urbano.
I really love the charms and challenges of site specific work. Each new wall has its eccentricities, and it is so rewarding to study a locale, get to know a community, sometimes another culture and contribute something to that specific place. I also adore the nature of the work itself, I love working at heights, climbing the scaffolding or operating the machinery, being high up in the air and having this eagle eye view of the surroundings. I don’t know that there is anything I don’t like about street art!.

Esto es increíble. Es una iniciativa increíble. Ojalá ocurrieran más cosas así. Los medios de comunicación de masas no tienen mucho interés en publicar este tipo de contenido, (ni me gustaría que lo hicieran, creo). Es inspirador, refrescante y esencial contar con este tipo de participación popular y voz independiente que celebra el arte callejero. Para mí, este tipo de medios independientes y el arte callejero brotan de la misma semilla, del mismo tipo de voluntad.
This is incredible. It’s an incredible initiative. I wish there were more of this happening. Mass media doesn’t have a whole lot of interest in publishing this type of content, (nor would I want it to, I don’t think). It’s inspiring, refreshing and essential to have this type of grass roots involvement and independent voice that celebrates street art. For me, this type of independent media and street art sprout from the same seed, the same type of will.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Recuerdo la primera pieza, ¡estaba tan nerviosa e insegura! Es agradable echar la vista atrás y ver cuánto ha cambiado mi estilo y cuánto he crecido. Es extraño pensar cómo cada pieza representa este momento en el tiempo y converge en lo que soy ahora y en mi continua evolución. Cada pieza tiene sus lecciones y ocupa una página en mi libro de historia personal junto con la ocupación del dominio público físico.
I do remember the first piece, I was so nervous and unsure! It’s nice to look back at that and see how much my style has changed and how much I’ve grown. It’s strange to think how each piece represents this moment in time and converges into what I am now and into my continuing evolution. Each piece has it’s lessons and occupies a page in my personal history book along with the occupation of physical public domain.
