Why is your tag Kobas?
Tuve varias firmas en mis comienzos que no me acabaron de encajar.
Un día vi en un tren escrito el nombre de “Combos” y me gustó. ¡Sonaba poderoso! (cosas de críos ja, ja, ja). Jugando con sus vocales derivó a “Combas” Le quité la “M” y suprimí la “C” por una “K” ya que me parecía más estética. Y de ahí salió mi álter ego.
I had several tags in my early days that didn’t quite like it.
One day I saw the name «Combos» written on a train and I liked it. It sounded powerful! (kids’ stuff ha ha). Playing with its vowels it derived to «Combas» I deleted letter «M» off and I deleted the «C» for a letter «K» as I thought it was more aesthetic. And that’s where my alter ego came from.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser un escritor de graffiti
What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
Ver las primeras piezas de mi ciudad.
Era un enano y no comprendía nada de aquello, pero me fascinaba. ¿Cómo lo hacían? ¿Por qué? Era como mágico. Me impactó tanto quería imitarlo.
Años más tarde conseguí junto con un amigo del colegio un par de aerosoles Felton y ahí empezó la maravillosa enfermedad.

I was a kid and didn’t understand any of it, but I was fascinated. How did they do it? Why? It was like magic. I was so impressed that I wanted to imitate him.
Years later I got together with a friend from school a couple of Felton aerosols and that’s when the wonderful disease started.
¿Qué tratas de decir con tus graffitis?
What do you try to say with your graffiti?
Nada. Soy un egoísta ( je, je, je). Sólo quiero satisfacción personal y sacar lo que llevo dentro. Pinto para mí. Pero me gusta que mi obra llegue a todo el público y que de alguna manera pueda despertar sentimiento, por pequeño que sea, aunque no sepan su significado. Que cada uno sea libre de interpretación. Al igual que a mí me pasa con otros escritores y artistas.
Nothing. I’m a selfish (heh, heh, heh). I just want personal satisfaction and to get what’s inside of me. I paint for myself. But I like my work to reach the whole audience and that somehow it can awaken feelings, however small, even if they don’t know its meaning. That everyone is free to perform. Just like I do with other writers and artists.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Yo lo definiría como un híbrido entre un estilo no tan salvaje y las letras tradicionales de la vieja escuela. Aunque no me importa variar y mezclar cosas más nuevas, sin llegar a perder la esencia.
I would define it as a hybrid between a not so wild style and traditional old school letters. Although I don’t mind varying and mixing newer things, without losing the essence.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Allá por el 96/97 Después de los taqueos y flopeos previos (incluso a brocha) hasta que juntábamos para sprays. Recuerdo que en la primera pieza escribí mi apellido.
Convencí a una compañera del cole para hacer pellas y nos fuimos a pintar en plena mañana a lo alto de una peña. Fueron unas letras muy legibles. Mitad plata, mitad violeta signal, con contorno y sombra negra. Qué lástima no conservar foto de aquello…
A finales del 99 empecé a tomármelo más en serio y es cuando surgió mi nombre actual y los primeros muros a todo color y organizados.
Back in 96/97 after the previous taggs and bombs (even with a brush) until we got together for sprays. I remember that in the first piece I wrote my last name.
I convinced a schoolmate to do some painting and we went to paint in the middle of the morning at the top of a rock. The letters were very legible. Half silver, half signal violet, with black outline and shadow. What a pity not to keep a picture of that…
At the end of 99 I started to take it more seriously and that’s when my current name and the first full-colour and organised walls came into being.
