¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Elegí mi nombre después de estar varios años de carrera pintando graffiti clásico jaja. Empecé a hacer graffiti en 2006 con mi firma CUST (evolucionado en CUTS después de un par de años). En 2015/2016 empecé a interesarme por el lettering, la caligrafía, la pintura de signos, etc. Trabajo mucho sobre papel, explorando cada estilo. Entonces decidí que podría ser genial mezclar obras de arte de tipografía clásica con graffiti, y empecé a hacer algunos typo-graffiti en la pared. Me encantó. Hago diferentes palabras en diferentes estilos, no me importaba escribir mi nombre.. Me gustaba el hecho de hacer una pieza tipográfica y verla en la pared. Así que hice un montón de ellos, pero no podía firmar este tipo de obras de arte con mi tag Cuts, esto ya no es graffiti clásico, no encajaba para mí,.. necesitaba algo nuevo… miro mis obras y yo estaba como… Juego con letras… Jugador de letras… ¡suena bien!.
I choose my name after several years of classic graffiti career ahahah. I started doing graffiti in 2006 with my tag CUST (evolved in CUTS after a couple of years). In 2015/2016 I started to be interested in lettering, calligraphy, sign painting etc. I work a lot on paper, exploring each style. Then I decided that it could be cool to mix classic typography artworks with graffiti, and I started to make some typo-graffiti on wall. I loved it. I do different words in different style, I didn’t care about writing my name.. I liked the fact to do a font piece and see it on wall. So I did a bunch of them, but I couldn’t sign this kind of artwork with my tag Cuts, this is not classic graffiti anymore, it didn’t match for me,.. I needed something new… i look at my works and I was like… I play with letters… Letters player… sounds good!.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Recuerdo que empecé a hacer algo (lejos del graffiti, pero era algo) en mi agenda del colegio en primaria .. sólo estaba escribiendo palabras en estilo pompa, letras con forma extraña ya sabes … aparte de eso, recuerdo que estaba tan excitado cuando pasé por algún salón de la fama, estas grandes pompas de color llaman la atención y me dan algo dentro. Por aquel entonces (principios del 2000), estaba patinando por ahí con amigos, y un día conocí a Sirpen, mayor que yo, skater y escritor también. Recuerdo que los sábados por la tarde me pasaba las horas viendo a Sirpen y a sus amigos haciendo graffiti, en silencio, sentados en un banco o algo así. Estaba como hipnotizado. En un par de años empecé a hacer mis cosas. Este mundo era demasiado guay como para sólo mirarlo desde fuera, tenía que estar dentro.
I remember I started doing something (far from graffiti, but was something) in my school diary in middle school.. i was just writing words in bubble style, letters with strange shape you know… beside that, I remember I was so hyped when I passed through some hall of fame, this big bombs of color of cours catch my eye and give me something inside. At the time (early 2000), I was skating around with friends, and one day I meet Sirpen, older than me, skater and writer too. I remember on Saturdays afternoon passing hours watching Sirpen and his friends doing graffiti, in silence, sitting on a bench or something like that. I was like hypnotized. In a couple of years I started doing my own thing. This world was too cool to be just watched from outside, I have to be in.
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti y lo que menos?
What do you like most about graffiti and what do you like least?
El graffiti es un mundo de experiencias. No es sólo rociar pintura. Quiero decir, sí, cuando pinto, solo o con mi crew, es increíble. Muchas sensaciones. Pero no es sólo ese momento. Graffiti es pensar en un proyecto, es hacer una ruta de 2 horas para encontrar el mejor sitio, esperar horas para tener la mejor luz para hacer la foto, conocer gente de todo el mundo con tu misma pasión, pasar horas con los amigos hablando de quién va a hacer el fondo de todo el muro (¡yo no! Ahahah). Esto y otras 10000 razones son lo que más me gusta del graffiti. Por el otro lado de la medalla, tienes malas historias, malos comportamientos, mala gente. Pero como todo. Somos humanos. Intento dar lo mejor y recibir lo mejor de la gente.
Graffiti is a world of experience. Not just spraying paint. I mean, yes, when I paint, alone or with my crew, is amazing. Super feelings. But is not just that moment. Graffiti is thinking about a project, is make a 2 hours route to find the best spot, wait hours to have the best light to get the shot, meet people around the world with your same passion, passing hours with friends talking about who is gonna do the background for the whole wall (not me! Ahahah). This and other 10000 reasons are what I like the most about graffiti. For the other side of medal, you have bad stories, bad behaviors, bad people. But like everything. We are human. I try to give the best and take the best from people.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Sí, por desgracia jajaj. Fue una pieza de plata que hice en mi ciudad con mi compañero Nynk en 2006. No recuerdo cómo me sentí al respecto, pero sé que a partir de ese momento casi nunca dejé de pensar en este mundo. Cambié y evolucioné mucho, desafiándome cada vez, intentando hacer la siguiente pieza mejor que la anterior. Soy muy autocrítico y estricto con lo que hago, esto es algo que nunca ha cambiado a lo largo de los años.
Yes, unfortunately ahahah. It was a silver piece done in my city with my crew mate Nynk in 2006. I don’t remember how I was feeling about it, but I know that from that moment I almost never stopped thinking about this world. I changed and evolved a lot, challenging me every time, trying to do the next piece better than the previous one. I am very self-critical and strict with what I do, this is something that has never changed over the years.
