¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Cuando empecé a pintar con 15-16 años, trabajaba como administrativa. Tenía que firmar mis archivos con la primera letra de mi nombre y las tres primeras de mi apellido, lo que daba como resultado LGON. Con el tiempo, experimenté con diferentes variaciones de mi nombre hasta que me decidí por Lours, que es ahora mi seudónimo para mis murales de arte callejero. Hoy en día, cuando pinto, creo un personaje del que versiono todo el tiempo.

When I started painting graffiti at the age of 15-16, I was working as an admin. I had to sign my files with the first letter of my name and the first three letters of my surname, resulting in LGON. Over time, I experimented with different variations of my name until I settled on Lours, which is now my pseudonym for my street art murals. Nowadays, when I paint graffiti, I create a character which I version of all the time.

¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?

What motivated you to get started painting?

Mi primo, que era escritor de graffiti en Canillejas, Madrid, y formaba parte de las generaciones mayores, impartía un taller de pintura en spray. Asistí cuando tenía 11 años y me gustó tanto que nunca dejé de pintar. No podía permitirme comprar pintura en spray, así que sólo dibujaba (no volví a pintar en paredes hasta los 15-16 años) hasta que pude trabajar y permitirme comprar mi propia pintura.

My cousin, who was a graffiti writer in Canillejas, Madrid, and part of the older generations, conducted a spray paint workshop. I attended when I was 11 years old and loved it so much that I never stopped painting. I couldn’t afford to buy spray paint, so I only drew (I didn’t paint on walls again until I was 15-16 years old) until I could work and afford to buy my own paint.

¿Cuál es tu estilo?

What is your style?

Mi estilo son Personajes.
Para ser sincera, me gusta todo, pero me encanta pintar. Trabajo como artista mural a gran escala. A veces diseño mis propios muros (estos trabajos son mis favoritos), y otras tengo que replicar una imagen en la pared (lo que me ayuda a practicar mis dotes de realismo). En mi tiempo libre, o cuando pinto para festivales, me gusta mezclar mis personajes con luces, movimiento y perspectivas. Siempre intento contar algo dentro o divertirme mucho, jaja.

En mis graffitis, simplemente me gusta dejar mi personaje allá donde voy. A veces está muy bien desarrollado y otras es terrible, jaja. Pero con el graffiti, sólo pretendo dejar mi huella para que mi familia, mis amigos o cualquiera que conozca a mi personaje se acuerde de mí cuando lo vea.

My style is Characters.
To be honest, I like everything—I just love painting. I work as a large-scale mural artist. Sometimes I design my own walls (these jobs are my favorite), and sometimes I have to replicate an image on the wall (which helps me practice my realism skills). In my free time, or when I paint for festivals, I like to mix my characters with lights, movement, and perspectives. I always try to tell something within or have a lot of fun haha.

In my graffiti, I just like to leave my character wherever I go. Sometimes it’s really well-developed, and sometimes it’s terrible, haha. But with graffiti, I just aim to leave my mark so that my family, friends, or anyone who knows my character remembers me when they see it.

Me parece perfecto. Ya había leído algunas entrevistas en «El Rincón de las Boquillas», y algunos amigos ya habían hecho una entrevista en este sitio, así que por qué no.

Sounds perfect to me. I had read some interviews on «El Rincón de las Boquillas» before, and some friends had already done an interview on this site, so why not.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Perfectamente, jajaja. Después de hacer el taller a los 13 años, a los 15-16 pinté mi primera «Lour» con unas letras muy raras detrás de una casita en Daganzo de Arriba. Estaba bastante nerviosa por si me pillaba la Guardia Civil o mi madre descubría que no me había ido a dormir a casa de una amiga como le había dicho. Si me hubiera pillado alguno de los dos, me habría metido en un buen lío, pero todo salió bien. Eso me dio aún más ganas de pintar. A día de hoy, sigo explorando estilos, disfrutando con cada uno de ellos y pintándolos por todo el mundo, conociendo a gente de todas partes con estilos diferentes y creando más anécdotas. Esto es lo mejor que me ha dado el graffiti: viajar y conocer a gente de todas partes que me enseña la esencia de su país. Ahora tengo 38 años y no pienso parar en absoluto.

Perfectly, hahaha. After doing the workshop at 13 years old, at 15-16, I painted my first «Lour» with some really weird letters behind a small house in Daganzo de Arriba. I was pretty nervous about being caught by the Guardia Civil or my mother finding out that I hadn’t gone to a friend’s house to sleep as I had told her. If either of them had caught me, I would have been in big trouble, but everything went well. That gave me even more desire to paint. To this day, I am still exploring styles, enjoying each one of them, and painting them around the world, meeting people from all over with different styles and creating more anecdotes. This is the best thing graffiti has given me—traveling and meeting people from all over who teach me the essence of their country. I’m 38 years old now and I’m not thinking in stopping at all.

La paz para todos es lo más importante hoy en día. Menos conflictos por asuntos triviales y más unidad para fortalecernos frente a una sociedad que pretende dividirnos.

Peace for everyone is the most important thing nowadays. Less conflict over trivial matters and more unity to strengthen us against a society that seeks to divide us.
