¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Después de tener un nombre de juguete durante unos meses y no llegar a ser muy bueno, decidí que si iba a ser Toy al menos debería tener un nombre Cool. Y aquí estamos 25 años después escribiendo Minus.
After having a toy name for a few months and not getting very good , I decided if I’m going to be Toy I should at least have a Cool name. And here we are 25 years later writing Minus.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Mi motivación fue ver a los chicos de mi instituto venir al colegio con fotos impresas de sus fillins los blackbooks que se pasaban de mano en mano. Conocer la historia del graffiti y las técnicas de «The Art of Getting Over» y «Spraycan Art». Siendo de Nueva York, siempre ha estado presente en tu vida. Pero una vez que empiezas a aprender cómo se hace y quién lo hace, te vuelves adicto a él.
My motivation was seeing kids from my high school come to school with printed photos of their fillins the blackbooks being passed around. Finding out about Graffiti history and techniques for “The Art of Getting Over” and “Spraycan Art”. Being from New York it was always there in the background of your life. But once you start learning how it’s done and who’s doing it you become addicted to it.

What is your style?
Mi estilo es agresivo, letras nítidas con flujo, me inclino hacia mezclas simples y colorear para enfatizar el estilo de las letras, o me gusta cambiar a lo que yo llamo estilo Logo donde no es tan técnico, pero trato de imaginar como el logotipo del título de un anime o una película. Cuando pinto logotipos, intento imaginar la mejor composición de elementos posible. Me gusta alternar entre estos estilos y, a veces, probar cosas nuevas para mantener el interés y ampliar mis conocimientos.
My style is aggressive , sharp lettering with flow, I lean towards simple blends and coloring to emphasize the style of the Letters,Or I like to switch to what I call Logo style where it’s not as technical, but I try to imagine as the title logo for an anime or movie. When I paint logo style I try to imagine the best composition of elements I can. I like to switch between these and sometimes try new things in order to keep interested and grow my skill set.

Creo que sería genial mostrar mi trabajo contigo, me gusta difundir mi arte a tanta gente como pueda. Hago todo lo posible para ofrecer graffiti de calidad a lo mejor de mi capacidad.
I think it would be cool to show my work with you guy, I like to spread my art to as many people that I can. I do my best to provide quality graffiti to the best of my ability.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Mi primera pieza fue un desastre.
Recuerdo que mi amigo me llamó para pintar una pared a piezas con ellos en 2006 (yo había estado bombardeando durante años, pero sólo hice piezas en blackbooks) y cuando llegué allí el espacio era tan pequeño, entre dos chicos que llegaron antes que yo y me fuí.
No cabían todas mis letras, así que pinté un pequeño pergamino en lugar de mi U y pinté una U de estilo Script sobre él. Vi a Ces usar esta técnica en una revista e hice lo que pude para recrearla.
Utilicé pintura oleum lila óxido y contorno púrpura con acentos rojos. La pintura era acuosa y era difícil de recortar, así que usé un pedazo de cartón para cada recorte e hizo que las letras se vieran muy rígidas y rectas.
¡Le quité toda la fluidez a mi boceto!
Desde entonces me aseguro de pintar tan grande como necesito. Lo primero que hago es dejar que las letras fluyan y respiren. Rara vez recorto y nunca vuelvo a utilizar ese maldito cartón.
Mi enfoque hoy en día consiste en que, tanto si pinto solo como con amigos, intento incluir todo lo que necesito para estar solo, la composición de las letras y los caracteres importan. Quiero que puedas pararte a mirar un rato y apreciar las elecciones de diseño aunque no puedas leer las letras.
My first piece was a mess.
I remember my friend calling me over to paint a piece wall with them it was 2006 (I had been bombing for years but only did pieces in blackbooks) and when I got there the space was so small, between two guys who got there before me and left.
I couldn’t fit all my letters so I painted a small scroll instead of my U and painted a Script style U on that . I saw Ces use this technique In a magazine and did my best to recreate it.
I used lilac rust oleum paint and purple outline with red accents. The paint was watery and was hard to cut back so I used a piece of cardboard for every cutback and it made the letters look really rigid and straight.
I took all the flow out from my sketch!
Since then I make sure I paint as big as I need to. I get there first , I let my letters flow and breathe. I rarely cut back and never use that damn cardboard again!
My approach today is about whether I’m painting alone or with friends I try to include everything I need to stand alone, composition of letters and characters all matter. I want you to be able to stop and look for a while and appreciate the design choices even if you can’t read the letters.
