¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser un escritor de graffiti?
What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
En realidad, no me gustaba el graffiti cuando era niño porque aquello estaba en la calle totalmente jajaj. No jugaba mucho en el barrio porque era peligroso, así que pasé una buena cantidad de tiempo mirando por la ventana y viendo todas las drogas, las pandillas, la violencia y las actividades en general que diariamente hacia la peña con capucha. Crecer en los años 90, el graffiti era obviamente parte de la estética de la ciudad, así que pensé que el graffiti junto con todas las otras cosas que mencioné fueron las principales razones por las que vivir de eso era malo. (Niños …)
Toda mi percepción del graffiti cambió una vez que uno de mis amigos más cercanos vino a mi casa en el verano del octavo grado y me enseñó Style Wars por primera vez. ¡Fue una inspiración después de eso! (como todos los demás, por supuesto)
I actually didn’t like graffiti when I was a kid and totally bought into society’s narrative of it lol. I didn’t get to play outside in the neighborhood much because it was dangerous so I spent a good amount of time looking out my window and watching all the drugs, gangs, violence and general hood activities on a daily basis. Growing up in the 90s, graffiti was obviously the aesthetic back drop for the city so I figured that graffiti along with all the other things I mentioned were the major reasons why living in the hood sucks. (Kids..)
My whole perception of graffiti changed once one of my closest friend’s came over to my house the summer of 8th grade and showed me Style Wars for the first time. It was a wrap after that! (like everyone else of course.)

What do you try to say with your graffiti?
Vivimos en una época en la que somos bombardeados con tantas cosas provenientes de todas las direcciones imaginables. Esto puede ser especialmente adormecedor en un lugar como Nueva York, donde ocurren muchas cosas a la vez; se vuelve demasiado fácil vivir y pensar de manera monótona mientras nos desconectamos de nosotros mismos, de los demás y de nuestro entorno. El Graffiti me ayudó a reconectar las conexiones monótonas que hice cuando era niño y a ver la ciudad, la sociedad y el mundo de maneras nuevas y emocionantes. Espero que mi graffiti pueda ayudar a las personas a reconfigurar y establecer las nuevas conexiones estéticas, filosóficas y sociopolíticas que necesitamos para solucionar la situación cada vez más jodida en la que nos encontramos ahora.
We live in an age where we’re bombarded with so much white noise coming from every direction imaginable. This can be especially mind numbing in a place like NYC where there’s a lot happening at once; it becomes too easy to live and think monotonously as we disconnect from ourselves, each other and our environment. Graffiti helped me rewire the monotonous connections I made as a kid and see the city, society and the world in new and exciting ways. I hope my graffiti can help people rewire and make the new aesthetic, philosophical and social-political connections we need to fix the increasingly fucked situation we now find ourselves in.

Estoy en los medios de graffiti globales. A pesar del impulso de más fronteras por parte de algunos, nuestra interdependencia / interconexión se está convirtiendo en un hecho obvio y evidente de la realidad. Prefiero ver a personas que se conectan con algo como el graffiti que algunas de las ideologías de mierda que ejecutan el orden global normativo.
I’m into global graffiti media. Despite the push for more borders on the part of some, our interconnected/interdependence is becoming a stark and obvious fact of reality. I rather see people connecting over something like graffiti than some of the bullshit ideologies that run the normative global order.

Where would you like to paint?
¡Demasiados lugares para pintar en este mundo! Todavía tengo que poner un pie en Asia, así que desde Seúl a Sumatra y más allá. Estuve en Europa tan solo un minuto por decirlo de alguna manera, así que obviamente es una obligación.
Sin embargo, lo que realmente quiero es causar sensación en el continente africano. En términos generales, África se queda dormida por una variedad de razones, pero es solo cuestión de tiempo. Como es lógico, el continente albergará algunos de los graff más innovadores del siglo XXI. Lo escuchaste aquí primero ya veras.
Too many places to paint in this world! I have yet to set foot in Asia so anywhere from Seoul to Sumatra and beyond. It’s been a minute since I’ve been to Europe so that’s obviously a must.
What I really want however is to make a splash on the continent of Africa. Generally speaking, Africa is slept on for a variety of reasons but it’s only a matter of time. Mark my word’s, the continent will be home to some of the most innovative graff in the 21st century. You heard it here first.
¿Cómo te imaginas el graffiti en el futuro (Año 2085)?
How do you imagine graffiti in the future (Year 2085)?
Tendría que preguntarle al profeta de la capilla local sobre el año 2085, pero espero que tengamos personas de orígenes más diversos que innoven y mantengan la forma de arte viva. El Graffiti necesita más mujeres pintando, ojalá suceda.
La tecnología obviamente tendrá un gran impacto en la evolución del graffiti. Si bien veo que el graffiti siempre mantiene una presencia en el mundo analógico / IRL, veo que el movimiento se digitaliza cada vez más. Al igual que algunas de estas cosas de RV / realidad aumentada, es una locura.
También estoy totalmente interesado en ver cómo la cultura hacker puede influir positivamente en la perspectiva creativa y el proceso de graffiti. Chicos como Katsu han estado dejando huella en el camino recientemente y están metidos en algo. Al final del día, estoy tratando de sorprender a todos tus smart phones y billeteras bitcoin. You’d have to ask my local hood prophet about 2085 but hopefully we have people from more diverse backgrounds innovating and keeping the artform alive. Graffiti needs more women painting, hopefully it happens.
Technology will obviously have a major impact on the evolution of graffiti. While I do see graffiti always maintaining a presence in the analog/IRL world I do see the movement increasingly becoming digitized. Like some of this VR/augmented reality stuff is crazy.
I’m also totally interested in seeing how hacker culture can positively influence the creative outlook and process of graffiti. Guys like Katsu have been paving the way recently and are onto something.At the end of the day, I’m trying to catch wreck on all your smart phones and bitcoin wallets. ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta del graffiti que te mantiene haciendolo?
What do you like the most about graffiti that keeps you doing it?
Se trata del momento en que lo hago. La sensación que obtienes cuando tus sentidos se intensifican al máximo y te encuentras pintando un lugar rodeado por las vistas nocturnas, los sonidos y los olores de la ciudad. Extrañamente, creo que es lo más parecido a la paz y la tranquilidad.
It’s all about the embodied moment. The feeling you get when your senses are heightened to the max and you find yourself painting a spot surrounded by the the nocturnal sights, sounds and smells of the city. I oddly enough find it to be the closest thing to peace and tranquility.
