Do you have some artistic name?
No tengo seudónimo. No empecé a hacer murales a través de la cultura del arte callejero, así que tener un seudónimo no era algo que pensara hacer. Además. Si decidiera que necesito un seudónimo, podría elegir el nombre «Naomi One Have», ya que mi apellido es Haverland y muchos artistas callejeros llevan la palabra «one» después de su nombre. I don’t have a pseudonym. I didn’t begin doing murals through the street art culture, so having a pseudonym wasn’t something I thought about doing. Additionally, I feel like I’m just too genuine for a moniker. If I DID decide I needed a pseudonym I might choose the name “Naomi One Have”- since my last name is Haverland and many street artists have the word “one” after their name. This is a play on words, since it sounds like “one half”.

What motivated you to get started painting?
Hace 20 años me animé a empezar a pintar murales porque quería ganar un dinero extra y la pintura era una de las únicas habilidades que tenía. Empecé haciendo murales a pequeña escala en casas y oficinas. Poco a poco he ido haciendo murales a gran escala y he desarrollado un estilo que me encanta. Ahora me motiva más el deseo de mejorar y expresarme que la necesidad de dinero.
20 years ago I was motivated to start painting murals because I wanted to make extra money and painting was one of the only skills I had. I started out doing small scale murals in homes and offices. It’s slowly progressed to more large scale murals and I developed a style that I love to do. Now my I’m more motivated by the drive to improve and express myself more than the need for money.

What is your style?
Mi estilo se caracteriza por colores vibrantes, temas caprichosos y texturas realistas. Me gusta crear escenas que evoquen una sensación de magia. Cuando incluyo el retrato humano en el diseño, hago hincapié en una expresión intensa.
My style is characterized by vibrant colors, whimsical subject matters, and realistic textures. I like to create scenes that evoke a sense of magic. When I include human portraiture in the design, I emphasize an intense expression.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Mis primeros murales fueron en el instituto, hace unos 30 años. Utilizaba un antiguo retroproyector y hojas de transparencias para transferir mi imagen a las paredes de mi colegio, mi iglesia y mi habitación. Mis habilidades han mejorado muchísimo desde entonces. Además, ahora dispongo de mejores herramientas que me facilitan mucho el trabajo. Sin embargo, mi preferencia por los temas extravagantes y los colores brillantes nunca ha cambiado con el paso de los años.
My first murals ever were in high school about 30 years ago. I would use an ancient overhead projector and transparency sheets to transfer my image onto walls at my school, church, and bedroom. My skills have improved immensely since then! Also, I have better tools now that make the job much easier. However, my preference for quirky subject matters and brilliant colors have never changed over the years.
