As of recent I’ve been doing more calligraphic, “gang style” letters.

What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
Cuando empecé en Los Angeles en la época temprana de los años 80 todo se relacionaba con las pandillas. El arte del Graffiti tuvo una vitalidad y movimiento. y fue una alternativa de estilo de vida de pandillero, esto era estar en contra de la ley. Cuando empecé escribiendo había 100 escritores a lo mejor en los Angeles. Era muy underground, nadie sabia lo que era, y era libertad. era individualidad. Era como joder a todo lo que era establecido. Era creatividad.
When I started in Los Angeles in the early 1980’s everything was gang related. Graffiti art had a vibrancy and movement. It was an alternative to gang lifestyle, one that was outlaw. When I first started writing there was maybe 100 writers in all of Los Angeles. It was so underground, no one knew what it was, it was freedom. It was individuality. It was a giant middle finger to everything that was established. It was creativity.

Can you talk about this as the graffiti in your city?
No hay ningún tren aquí en mi ciudad (Los Angeles) es todo sobre muros. durante un tiempo en los años finales de los 80 y principios de los 90 un autobús fue taqueado, por ambas partes tanto por dentro como por fuera. Pero con la tecnología te cogen, ir a los buses se termino.
There aren’t any trains in my city (Los Angeles) it is all about walls here. For a time in the late 80s/early 90’s bus tagging was huge, both insides and outsides. But as technology caught up, the busses died off…

Seen – una gran influencia en los días del comienzo. Saber y Mear – manteniendo la postura política y el comentario social actual. Risk que nunca lo deja. Bates – el estilo durante los días.

Los escritores reales no son una moda.. estábamos aquí antes y esto era bueno, y estaremos aquí durante mucho tiempo después de que los toyacos se hayan movido a cualquier cosa. Esto es una forma de vida.
Real writers aren’t a trend…we were here before it was cool, and we will be here long after the toys have moved onto something else. This is a lifestyle.
