¿De dónde viene tu apodo?

Where does your pseudonym come from?

Empecé a utilizar el nombre PISA en el año 2000. El nombre se basaba en la ciudad italiana. No sé por qué, supongo que me gustaban las letras. Empecé pronto a cambiar algunas letras, de PISA a PYSA a PYSAR o PYSR, de alguna manera acabé usando PYSER la mayor parte del tiempo. Más tarde cambié mi nombre unas cuantas veces. Pero en 2013 volví a él y desde entonces lo uso constantemente.

I started to use the name PISA in 2000. The name was based on the italian city. I don’t know why, guess I just liked the letters. I started early to change some letters, from PISA to PYSA to PYSAR or PYSR, somehow I ended up by using PYSER most of the time. Later I changed my name a view times. But in 2013 I came back to it and since then I use it constantly.

Mis primeras aventuras con la pintura en las paredes fueron con globos llenos de agua y pintura. Dos amigos y yo lanzamos esos globos en paredes y casas de nuestro barrio. Formamos una especie de «cuadrilla» sin saber nada de grafitis y cuadrillas.
En esa época, mi hermano mayor empezó a pintar graffitis. Así que yo también empecé a pintar. Supongo que es natural que los hermanos pequeños quieran hacer lo que hace el hermano mayor.

My first adventures with putting paint on walls were balloons filled with water and paint. Two friends and I had thrown those balloons on walls and houses in our neighbourhood. We kind of formed a „crew“ without knowing anything about graffiti and crews.
During that time my older brother started painting graffiti. So I also started painting. Guess it’s kind of natural that smaller brothers or sisters always want to do what the big bro/sis does.

¿Cuál es tu estilo?

What is your style?

Yo diría que flexible y diverso. Me aburro muy fácilmente cuando pinto el mismo estilo una y otra vez. Supongo que esa es también la razón por la que he cambiado de nombre varias veces. En lo que respecta al graffiti, quizá tenga un trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad.
De todos modos, siempre me gusta experimentar, plantearme nuevos retos, probar técnicas, etc. Por eso mi estilo evoluciona constantemente. Intento que cada pieza sea única. Un año pinto sobre todo estilos salvajes, otro pinto sencillo o abstracto, el siguiente me centro en los personajes. Nunca sé lo que vendrá después.

I would say flexible and diverse. I get bored very easily when I paint the same style again and again. I guess that’s also the point why I have changed my name a view times. When it comes to graffiti maybe I have a attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Anyway I always like to experiment, set new challenges, try out techniques etc. That’s why my style is constantly evolving. I try to make every piece unique. One year I paint mostly wildstyles, the other I paint simple or abstract, the next I focus on characters. I never know what comes next.

En primer lugar, gracias por darme la oportunidad de aparecer en tu web.
Me siento honrado. Durante los últimos años, especialmente IG se ha convertido en el principal medio de comunicación del graffiti. Pero para mí a menudo me siento extraño para desplazarse a través de esta masa de fotos de graffiti. Es degradar las obras de arte a un consumible. Te desplazas y te desplazas, miles de fotos. Y al final ni siquiera puedes recordar un nombre. Las entrevistas o los reportajes fueron y siguen siendo una buena herramienta para dar a los escritores/artistas un poco más de espacio.

First of all, thanks for giving me the opportunity to be featured on your website.
I feel honored . During the last years especially IG has become the main graffiti media. But for me it often feels strange to scroll through this mass of graffiti pics. It’s degrading the artworks to a consumable. You scroll and scroll, thousands of pics. And in the end you can’t even remember one name. Interviews or features where and still are a good tool to give writers/artists a bit more space.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?

Do you remember the first piece?

Definitivamente lo recuerdo. 1998. Era una tarde en Berlín y empezamos a pintar en una línea de tren. Pintamos un «JBF». Relleno de cobre, fondo verde, línea negra, reflejos blancos. Recuerdo una extraña conexión de la J con la F. Desgraciadamente no tengo una foto de esa pieza.

Estábamos muy excitados mientras pintábamos. Cuando terminamos, aparecieron dos tipos de seguridad. Les dijimos que estábamos jugando al escondite y nos dejaron ir. Más tarde me sentí como en un apuro. Sobre todo las veces que salí con mis colegas de crew ETAR y BLEND. Pintábamos mucho. Era divertido y muy intenso. Pero en los puntos en los que todo tenía que ir lo más rápido posible, parecía que faltaba algo. La acción se acababa en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. No había tiempo para disfrutar del acto de pintar.

Hoy en día pintar es menos emocionante, aunque no sea en una sala. Por eso disfruto más de la pintura. Es como unas cortas vacaciones para mi mente. Sólo me concentro en los colores y en la superficie. Pintar para mí es la paz interior.

I definitely remember. 1998. It was afternoon in Berlin and we started painting at a train line. We painted a „JBF“. Copper fill in, green background, black online, white highlights. I remember a weird connection from the J to the F. Unfortunately I don’t have a foto of that piece.

We were exited as hell while painting. As we were finished, two security guys showed up. We told them we were playing hide-and-seek and they let us go. Later it felt like a rush. Especially the times I went out with my crew mates ETAR and BLEND. We where painting a lot. It was fun, and very intense. But on spots were everything had to go as quick as possible, it felt like there was something missing. The action was over in an eye blink. No time to enjoy the act of painting.

Today painting is less exiting, even if it ́s not on a hall. Therefore I enjoy painting more. It feels like a short holiday for my mind. Just focus on the colors and the surface. Painting for me is inner peace.

En mi opinión, el desarrollo de la escena del graff en los últimos 10 años debería hacernos reflexionar. El odio dentro de la escena crece y crece.
La gente lanza prejuicios y estereotipos a otras personas sin conocerlas. En la mayoría de los casos sólo se basan en circunstancias superficiales como la pintura legal/ilegal. Condenar y degradar a las personas y sus vidas sólo basándose en que ella/él está haciendo algo que no encaja en la propia visión del mundo, está muy cerca de los mecanismos del fascismo.

In my eyes the development of the graff scene in the last 10 years should make us think. The hate inside the scene is growing and growing.
People are throwing prejudices and stereotypes at other people without knowing them. In most cases only based on superficial circumstances like legal/illegal painting. To condemn and degrade people and their lives only based on she/he is doing something that doesn’t fit into the own worldview, is very close to the mechanisms of fascism.
