Rubin es un escritor de graffiti de origén Sueco pero que ahora está viviendo en New York .
Rubin is a graffiti writter from Sweden, but he’s living in New York now.

What sprays do you use ?
Me gusta usar cualquier cosa que pueda tener en mis manos. Crecí en Suecia con Auto- K , que más tarde se convirtió en Belton y Molotow . Me gusta la libertad de elección que existe hoy en día con todas las marcas personalizadas para los artistas, pero solía ser más fácil en días con sólo unas pocas marcas y una gama de coloreslimitada. Me gusta mezclar marcas. Una marca puede ser mejor para el fondo para difunimar y otra funciona mejor para los contornos.
I like to use pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I grew up in Sweden using Auto-K, which later became Belton and Molotow. I like the freedom of choice nowadays with all the custom brands for artists, but it used be easier back in the days with only a few brands and a limited range of colors. I like to mix brands. One brand might be better for background fades and one works better for outlines.

What you try to say with your graffiti?
Cuando te haces mayor empiezas a pensar más. Te empiezas a hacer tus preguntas a ti mismo, porqué lo haces y así sucesivamente. Cuando era más joven era muy importante lo que otras personas pensaban sobre lo que hago. Ahora bien, no me importa lo que piensen los demás. Sé honesto contigo mismo es importante. Se trata también de hacer tu marca como » Kilroy estuvo aquí » durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial , o el antiguo Egipto del año 3000 a.C . Todo el mundo quiere ser visto y el Graffiti es la forma natural para hacerlo.
When you get older you start to think more. You start asking your self questions, why you do it and so on. When I was younger it was very important what other people thought about what I do. Now I couldn’t care less what other people think. Being honest to your self is important. It’s also about making your mark just like “Kilroy was here” during World War II or Ancient Egypt 3000 BC. Everybody wants to be seen and Graffiti is natural way for me to that.

Compartir es importante. También es bueno si puede inspirar a escritores jóvenes. Recuerdo lo importante que era cuando yo era joven y me interesé por el graffiti .
Sharing is important. It’s also nice if you can inspire younger writers. I remember how important that was when I was young and got interested in Graffiti.
¿Qué fue lo que te motivó para empezar a ser escritor de graffiti?
What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
Era muy, muy joven cuando el Graffiti me atrapó, así que para mí siempre ha sido tan natural. Yo tenia 9 ó 10 años cuando ví la película de «Beat Street» junto con un amigo y desde ese día ha sido el pintar una gran parte de mí y de mi vida cotidiana. He hecho un montón de ideas sobre todo después de que me mudé desde Suecia a Nueva York, porque el Graffiti todavía me hace un impacto tan grande en mí que todavía no tengo una respuesta a esa pregunta.
I was very very young when Graffiti caught me, so for me it has always been so natural. I was 9-10 when I saw the movie «Beat Street» together with a friend and from that day Graffiti has been a big part of me and my everyday life. I’ve done a lot of thinking especially after I moved from Sweden to New York why Graffiti still does such a big impact on me and I still don’t have an answer to that question.
Graffiti … ¿ Cántidad o Calidad?
Graffiti …. quantity or quality?
La Calidad definitivamente ha sido siempre más importante para mí, especialmente hoy en día significa todo para mí. Pero trato de pintar tanto como sea posible , y siempre intento mantener una calidad alta.
Quality has definitely always been more important to me, especially nowadays it means everything for me. But I try to paint as much as posible and always maintain a high quality.

Hay un montón de artistas grandes con talento procedentes de Rusia y Asia. Veo cosas que son alucinantes, pero no sé mucho acerca de estos artistas y de su trabajo. También espero poder visitar Sudamérica algún día. Veo tantas cosas grandes en especial personajes hechos con trabajo, por lo que también es algo que me gustaría saber más de acerca.
There’s a lot of great talented artists coming from Russia and Asia. I see stuff that’s mindblowing, but I don’t know much about these artists or their work. I also hope to visit South America some day. I see so much great stuff from over there especially character based work, so that’s also something I would like to know more about.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is the style you use?
Mi estilo proviene del Wild Style clásico, pero siempre trato de mantener mi estilo fresco y siempre empujar a mi mismo y probar con cosas nuevas. No me gusta mencionar nombres porque siempre se tiende a olvidar a alguien, pero Kase2 , Riff170 y Bando se encuentran entre los que me han influenciado antes de que yo sabía quiénes eran.
My style comes from classic Wild Style, but I always try to keep my style fresh and always push my self and try new things. I don’t like to mention names because you always tend to forget someone, but Kase2, Riff170 and Bando are among the one’s that influenced me before I even knew who they were.
¿Piensas que las boquillas influyen en la manera de hacer graffiti?
Do you think that caps influde on the way of making a graffiti?
Sí y no. Son sólo herramientas que te ayudarán a crear lo que tienes en tu cabeza.
Both yes and no. They’re just tools to help you to create what you have in your head.
¿Puedes hablarnos del graffiti en tu ciudad?
Can you talk about this as the graffiti in your city?
Nueva York es como todo el mundo en miniatura. Lo mismo ocurre con el Graffiti. puedes encontrar una pequeña pieza de cualquier cosa aquí . Desde el tradicional estilo de Nueva York «Wild style» hasta movidas de street art. Hay una corriente constante de gran talento que sale de Nueva York y en los últimos dos años, siento que ha habido un auge en la pintura. También la escena de las galerías está creciendo de nuevo, que es una buena cosa.
New York is like the whole world in miniature. The same goes for Graffiti. You can find a little piece of everything here. From the traditional New York «Wild Style» to trendy hipsterish street art stuff. There’s a constant flow of great talent coming out of New York and the last couple of years I feel there’s been a boom in writing. Also the gallery scene is growing again which is a good thing.

What is your favourite graffiti film?
Es tan fácil ser nostálgico sobre el Graffiti, pero es difícil de evitar clásicos. Style Wars, Wild Style y Beat Street . Hay algo en esas películas y no me canso de ellas.
It’s so easy to be nostalgic about Graffiti but it’s hard to avoid the classics. Style Wars, Wild Style & Beat Street. There’s just something in those movies and I never get tired of them.

Hay tantos. Me gustan los maestros de la vieja escuela, como Part One, Riff 170, Kase2, Seen etc.
Gouge, Boa, Ewok, Smash, Soten, Bates, Kem5, Revok, Score, Roid, ECB, Fecks, Bacon, Wane, Jupe,Foham, Mr. Wany, Swet, C215, Dudes, Dwane, Kaos. La lista podría continuar para siempre ….
There’s so many. I like the old style masters such as Part One, Riff 170, Kase2, Seen etc.
Gouge, Boa, Ewok, Smash, Soten, Bates, Kem5, Revok, Score, Roid, ECB, Fecks, Bacon, Wane, Jupe,Foham, Mr. Wany, Swet, C215, Dudes, Dwane, Kaos. The list could go on forever….
