¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
He pintado y dibujado toda mi vida, pero me interesaba esforzarme para aprender a pintar más grande y diseñar en espacios. Durante el cierre de Covid-19 en mi ciudad, había un montón de paredes temporales que tapiaban escaparates de negocios, donde pude practicar y empezar a pintar a mayor escala y rápidamente. A partir de ahí, las cosas empezaron a acelerarse y he tenido la suerte de viajar y pintar a gran escala en ciudades de todo Estados Unidos.
I’ve been painting and drawing my whole life, but I was interested in pushing myself to learn how to paint larger and design in spaces. During Covid-19 lockdown in my city, there were plenty of temporary walls that boarded up business storefronts, where I was able to get practice in and start painting on a larger scale and quickly. Things really started to ramp up from there and I’ve been fortunate to travel and paint on a large scale in cities across the United States.

What is your style?
Mi estilo está fuertemente influenciado por los estilos de ilustración históricos y el arte popular, especialmente en lo que se refiere a la región del noroeste del Pacífico de los Estados Unidos, donde crecí, y mi origen chino-americano.
My style is heavily influenced by historic illustration styles and folk art, especially as it relates to the Pacific Northwest region of the United States where I grew up, and my Chinese American background.

Do you remember the first piece?
Mis primeras piezas las pinté cuando hacía mucho frío, con pintura de cubo. Las encajaba en mi horario después del trabajo. Pude aprender rápidamente lo que funcionaba mejor en términos de ejecución y diseño y mejorar mis habilidades. Empecé a pintar murales en un momento muy incierto de mi vida y me esforcé por pintar lo más a menudo posible y probar cosas nuevas, una liberación creativa increíble a la que estoy totalmente enganchada. Es cierto que mi estilo ha cambiado con el tiempo, pero me sigue gustando trabajar en varios estilos, siempre que sean enérgicos y atrevidos.
My first few pieces were painted when it was very cold, with bucket paint. I squeezed them into my schedule after work at the time. I was able to learn quickly what would work best in terms of execution and design and improve my skills. I started painting murals at a very uncertain point of my life and really worked to paint as often as possible and try new things – an amazing creative release I’m totally hooked on. My style has certainly changed over time, but I still like to work in multiple styles, so long as it’s energetic and bold.
