¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Elegí este nombre cuando tenía 11 años, quería un nombre que empezara con una S por la fluidez de esa letra, y con una K al final por el flow. También me gustaba mucho la N, así que me puse Sunk porque me gustaba el funk.
I chose my name when I was 11 years old, I wanted a name starting with an S for the flow of that letter, and with a K at the end for the kick. I really liked the N too, so I got to Sunk cause I liked the funk.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
La aventura. La escritura y todo lo que conlleva significaba aventura para un niño de 11 años de clase media que crecía en una pequeña ciudad de los Países Bajos a mediados de los ochenta.
Adventure. Writing and everything that came with it meant adventure to an 11 year old middle class kid growing up in a small city in the Netherlands in the mid eighties.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
He pasado por muchos experimentos del estilo, porque eso es lo que hacíamos antes de que Internet pudiera establecer escuelas de estilo globales. Ahora diría que mi estilo es bastante clásico, un estilo semi-wild, con personajes y mucho color y personajes divertidos.
I’ve gone through so many style experiments, because that’s what we did before the internet was able to lay out global style schools. Now I’d say my style is pretty classic, semi wild style, with characters and a lot of colour and fun characters.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
A mediados de los ochenta empezamos a hacer firmas con rotuladores, a las que llamábamos «hits». La primera pieza que hice fue con mi hermano mayor, que escribía Saco por aquel entonces, y con nuestro amigo del barrio, que escribía Sir. Fue en 1987, en el escaparate de una tienda y conseguimos que el propietario nos pagara una gran bolsa de pintura. Eso nos permitió hacer más muros y firmas más grandes.
In the mid eighties we started doing marker tags, we’d call those ‘hits’. The first piece I did was with my older brother who wrote Saco back then, and our neighborhood friend who wrote Sir. It was 1987, on a boarded storefront and we got the owner to pay for a big bag of paint! That made it possible for us to do more pieces, and bigger tags.
