¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonyme come from?
Conseguí mi nombre en 1997, quería un nombre que todos conocieran, que se repitiera constantemente y que, sin embargo, siguiera siendo original. Viajé a través de México en 1996 y vi el nombre «OhNo» en las autopistas y pensé que para mí mismo me gustaba pero que necesitaba que fuera original. Trataba de conseguir que con este nombre hasta mis enemigos dijeran mi nombre todos los días… «¿Ya-Noe qué significa eso?»
I got my name in 1997, I wanted a name that everyone is familiar with, constantly repeated and yet still original. I travelled though Mexico in 1996 and saw the name “OhNo” on the freeways and thought to myself I like that but need it to be original. With this name even my enemies say my name every day… “Ya-Noe what I mean?”
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Crecí rodeado de pandillas y sólo disfrutaba del vandalismo de las pandillas. Ser apuñalado o disparado, no me pareció muy «bueno», jaja. Eventualmente empecé a salir con la crew de la MTA a mediados de los 90, lo que me llevó a mi verdadero amor por el graffiti. Concedido que todavía llevábamos armas y nos volvimos bastante locos, todavía se trataba del amor por el graffiti.
I grew up around gangs and only really enjoyed the vandalism espect of gang banging. Getting stabbed or shot at, didn’t seem very “cool” to me hahah. Eventually started hanging out with MTA crew in the mid 90’s, which led to my true love for graffiti. Granted we still carried guns and got pretty crazy, it was still all about the love of graffiti.

What do you try to say with your artworks?
En estos días me he movido a más a las bellas artes/murales a gran escala que me permiten expresar mi opinión sobre los acontecimientos actuales y todavía poder mantener a mi familia. No me malinterpreten, sigo pintando las calles y los trenes, pero no cago en mi propio patio. Pinto en mis viajes alrededor del mundo.
These days I’ve moved into more fine art/ Large scale murals which allows me to voice my opinión on current events and still able to support my family. Don’t get me wrong I still paint the streets and trains, I just don’t shit in my own backyard. I paint on my travels around the world.

What is your style?
El estilo de mis paredes hoy en día es una mezcla de gente, lugares y cosas. Normalmente con un significado más profundo. Mi estilo de Graffiti sería Font driven con mi propio sabor, todavía aprecio un estilo salvaje pero elegí ir más simple con mis letras y enfocarme en los rellenos y el fondo.
My style for my walls these days is a mixture of people, places and things. Usually with a deeper meaning. My Graffiti style would be Font driven with my own flavor, I still appreciate a wild style but chose to go simpler with my letters and focus on the fill-ins and background.

Do you remember the first piece?
Mi primera pieza fue en 1996 en Los Angeles CA en el valle 818… Fue realmente una mierda, pero hey todos empezamos alguna vez. Mi estilo ha ido cambiando a lo largo de los años mayormente para mejor, el control del spray ha mejorado y hay cientos de colores ahora que nunca tuve de niño. Cuando era más joven pintaba para conseguir la fama, ahora pinto por diversión. Hace unos 10 años mi idea del graffiti cambió de la fama impulsada por el ego a simplemente divertirme con mis chicos y honestamente al final del día de eso se trata.
My first piece was in 1996 Los Angeles CA in the valley 818… It was really really bad, but hey we all start from somewhere. My style has kept changing over the years mostly for the better, can control has gotten better and there are hundreds of colors now that I never had growing up. When I was younger I painted for fame now, I paint for fun. About 10yrs ago my idea on graffiti changed from ego driven fame to really just having fun with my boys and honestly at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about.
