¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
En 1993 mi nombre de pila era Mellow Tribe y quería algo más corto para mi reinicio unos años más tarde. Cogí las tres primeras letras del nombre de mi padre y le añadí una S. El nombre suena agudo y delicado a la vez y eso va bien con mis piezas.
In 1993 my first name was Mellow Tribe and I wanted something shorter for my reboot a few years later. I took the first three letters of my father’s first name and added an S. The name sounds sharp and delicate at the same time and that goes well with my pieces.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Vengo de una ciudad de Alemania del Este llamada Weißwasser, cerca de la frontera polaca. En 1992/93, unos tipos formaron un grupo de grafiteros llamado 23G y bombardearon toda la ciudad, desde la zona de la estación de tren hasta los bloques de la parte sur, donde yo vivía. Me empapé literalmente de todo e inmediatamente cogí una lata y pinté las partes traseras de los garajes de nuestras manzanas. También presenté a esta cuadrilla en mi último libro «The Ink I Use Might Stink, But You Gotta Think» (La tinta que uso puede apestar, pero tienes que pensar) Vol. 1. Estaban realmente enfermos y pintaban con berlineses a principios de los 90. Así que dio la casualidad de que teníamos peña muy buena legendaria de OCB o GPK en esta pequeña ciudad y eso fue algo especial. Más tarde tuve el honor de aprender mucho de Andy K. y Slider de los Bandits porque hicimos juntos algunos artworks para portadas de discos. Ahora pinto mucho con Dejoe y Milk21 de OCB. Admiro su libertad cuando pintan estilos sin fronteras y mis personajes encajan bien con ambos. Por cierto, empecé a pintar de nuevo después de un largo descanso gracias a Dejoe e Inka One de CMD. Mucho amor para ambos.
I come from a town from East Germany called Weißwasser close to the Polish border. In 1992/93 some dudes formed a graffiti crew called 23G and they bombed the entire city, from the train station area to the blocks in the southern part of the city where I lived. I literally soaked it all up and immediately got a can and tagged the backs of the garage complexes on our blocks. I also introduced this crew in my last book ‘The Ink I Use Might Stink, But You Gotta Think’ Vol. 1. They were really ill and painted with Berliners back in the early 90s. So it happened that we had legendary bombs from OCB or GPK in this small town and that was something special. Later I had the honor of learning a lot from Andy K. and Slider from the Bandits because we did some artworks for record covers together. Now I paint a lot with Dejoe and Milk21 from OCB. I admire their freedom when they paint styles without any borders and my characters fit well with both of them. BTW, I started painting again after a long break because of Dejoe and Inka One from CMD. Much love to both of them.

What is your style?
No tengo ni idea, en realidad lo pinto todo. Mucha gente dice que mis obras parecen óleos. De momento me gusta la anatomía clásica y perderme en la mitología y las escenas de lucha.
I have no idea, I actually paint everything. Many people say that my pieces look like oil paintings. At the moment I like classical anatomy and get lost in mythology and fight scenes.

¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Pinté mi primera obra seria con un amigo en un supermercado en el verano de 1993. Era una pompa a plata con contornos amarillos, ‘EC’ alias East Colors. El estilo sencillo sigue ahí y todavía lo miro de vez en cuando. Por desgracia, ya no me identifico con él, claro, pero sigue llenándome de orgullo. Sólo tenía 13 años y aprendí mucho de mis amigos mayores. Un gran aplauso para Sep3, Step One, Zeus, TNC, FHK y Freak.
I painted my first serious piece with a friend at a supermarket in summer of 1993. This was a chrome bombing with yellow outlines, ‘EC’ aka East Colors. The simple style is still there and I still look at it from time to time. Unfortunately I can’t really identify with it anymore of course, but it still makes me proud. I was only 13 years old and learned a lot from my older friends. Big up Sep3, Step One, Zeus, TNC, FHK and Freak.

Me gustaría ver más apertura y honestidad en la escena del graffiti. Muchos escritores se centran en demasiadas cosas negativas y su ego forma una profunda envidia e ignorancia. Yo siempre trato las cosas así de frente y me distancio de la gente que simplemente no quiere cambiar. Por último… Un gran aplauso para mi mujer y compañeros como Milk21, Dejoe, Wave Nine, Kaser, Symer, Inka One, Slider, Andy K., Ton, Klack Three, N3M, 90’s Tapes y HHV.
I would like to see more openness and honesty in the graff scene. Many writers focus on too many negative things and their ego forms deep envy and ignorance. I always address things like this straight and distance myself from people who simply don’t want to change. Last but not least… Big up to my wife and fellows like Milk21, Dejoe, Wave Nine, Kaser, Symer, Inka One, Slider, Andy K., Ton, Klack Three, N3M, 90’s Tapes and HHV.
