¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Hubo varias firmas antes de ésta. Empezó como Denim. Venía de mi color favorito en aquel momento, que era el azul vaquero de una antigua marca de pintura para zapatos llamada Tuxan. A principios de los 90, Denim se acortó a Dens.
There were various tags beforehand though this one It started out as Denim. That came from my favourite colour at the time which was Denim Blue in an old shoe paint brand called Tuxan.. Some time in the early 90’s Denim got shortened down to Dens.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Mi hermano y yo empezamos a finales de los 80, cuando éramos patinadores, y fuimos a una escuela en la que la escritura y la ruptura estaban despegando, así que todo empezó ahí. Tuve la suerte de crecer en las líneas Hurstbridge y Epping, de donde eran algunos de los primeros escritores pioneros de Melbourne, así que crecimos viendo sus obras a lo largo de las líneas.
My brother and I started in the late 80’s when we were skaters and we went to a school where writing and breaking was kicking off so it just sort of went from there. I was lucky to grow up on the Hurstbridge line and Epping lines where a number of the early pioneering Melbourne writers were from so we grew up seeing their pieces along the lines.

What is your style?
Cuando empecé, se basaba en una mezcla de los primeros estilos de Melbourne y las influencias de Nueva York, pero con los años se convirtió en mis propios estilos.
When I started it originally based on a mix of early Melbourne styles and NYC influences but over the years it developed into my own styles.

Es bueno ver que tu plataforma y muchas como ella promocionan las obras de arte de la gente y leen sobre historias de escritores que de otro modo podrían haber caído en el olvido con el paso del tiempo.
It’s good to see your platform and many like it promoting people’s artwork and reading about writers histories that may otherwise have been forgotten over time.
¿Te acuerdas de la primera pieza?
Do you remember the first piece?
Recuerdo vagamente mi primera pieza, pero éramos muy jóvenes y entonces no teníamos cámaras ni nos importaba hacer fotos o documentar nada.
I vaguely remember my first piece and pieces but we were very young and din’t have cameras at the time or care about getting photos or documenting any of it.

A lo largo de los años, gracias al graffiti, he tenido la suerte de conocer a un montón de gente guay y de pintar con tantos escritores y artistas geniales. Solo quiero darles las gracias a ellos, a mi crew y a todos los que han pasado por aquí.
Over the years through graffiti I have been luckily enough to meet loads of cool people and paint with so many great writers and artists. I just want to give a shout out to them, my crew and everyone from along the way.
