¿De dónde viene tu apodo?
Where does your pseudonym come from?
Mope viene originalmente de ‘Dope’. Surgió durante un taller en mi segundo año de pintura. Me negaron pintar ‘Dope’ porque el taller era para la ciudad de Luxemburgo. Así que cambié la D por una M, no recuerdo por qué. Me pareció que sonaba bien, así que me lo quedé.
Mope originally comes from ‘Dope’. It came up during a workshop in my second year of painting. I was refused to paint ‘Dope’ because the workshop was for the city of Luxembourg. So I changed the D into an M, I don’t remember why. I thought it sounded dope, so I kept it.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a pintar?
What motivated you to get started painting?
Empecé a pintar graffitis en el instituto. Unos amigos de mi clase me animaron a ir con ellos a pintar en el antiguo matadero que había junto a nuestro instituto. La sensación de pintar en las paredes me enganchó enseguida, así que seguí yendo.
I started painting graffitis during highschool. Friends in my class motivated me to go with them to paint in the old slaughterhouse next to our school. I was immediately addicted by the feeling of painting on walls, so I kept on going.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Cuando empecé a pintar, enseguida me di cuenta de que me interesaba más la ilustración que la escritura de estilo clásico. Así que primero pinté letras ilustrativas y después de mi diploma en diseño de ilustraciones dediqué por completo mi estilo a los personajes.
Hoy en día mi estilo es muy humorístico e irónico. Ofrece una visión crítica de nuestra sociedad con un pequeño guiño al final.
When I started painting, I quickly noticed that I was more interested in illustration then classic style writing. So I first painted illustrative letters and after my diploma in Illustration design I completely dedicated my style to characters.
Nowadays my style is very humerous and ironic. It gives a critic view on our society with a little wink at the end.

Siempre me alegra tener la oportunidad de compartir mis obras con otras personas y mostrarles mi visión del mundo. Quizá pueda inspirarles, tanto como otras personas me inspiraron o me inspiran a mí.
I’m always happy to get the opportunity to share my works with other people and show them my view of the world. Maybe I can inspire them, as much as other people inspired or still inspire me.

Claro que me acuerdo. Es como tener sexo por primera vez, ¡fue malo pero aun así fue tu primera vez!
No, en serio: era invierno de 2010 en Luxemburgo. Un amigo me pidió que le acompañara a pintar en el antiguo matadero, al lado de nuestra escuela. No estábamos preparados. Se hizo de noche después de media hora empezamos y me quedé sin botes de spray para mis contornos. Pinté una mierda de 3 colores estilo burbuja. Unos años más tarde, me di cuenta en la foto, que llegué a cruzarme con uno de los grafiteros más conocidos de Luxemburgo. Una verdadera historia de Toyaco…
Of course I remember. It’s like having sex for the first time, it was bad but still it was your first time!
No for real: It was wintertime 2010 in Luxembourg. A friend asked me to come with him to paint at the old slaughterhouse, next to our school. We were completely unprepared. It became dark after half an hour we started and I ran out of spraycans for my outlines. I painted a shitty 3 colored bubblestyle. A few years later, I realised on the picture, that I even crossed one of the most known graffiti writers in Luxembourg. A real toy story…
