Why is your tag B.ASH?
Pinto las letras de B A S H desde el año 1998. Antes de pintaba muchas palabras diferentes.
Una noche estaba sentado con mi compañero de crew FAT GIRL MAIK en un bar de mi ciudad natal, Magdeburgo, que está a unas 2 horas de Berlín.
Estabamos echando unas cervezas e hicimos algunos bocetos cuando llegó un escritor llamado BASH. Lo conocí y conversamos sobre esto y aquello. Después de un rato me dijo que dejó de escribir y me preguntó si quería pillarme su nombre. Para mí fue un honor y dije que sí. Para marcar la diferencia entre el viejo y el nuevo BASH, decidí poner un punto entre B y A, por eso es que me llamo B.ASH, que también suena como un nombre normal.
I´m writing the letters B A S H since 1998. Before I painted lots of different words.
One evening I was sitting with my crew mate FAT GIRL MAIK in a bar in my hometown Magdeburg, which is about 2 hours away from Berlin.
We drank beer and did some sketches, when an older writer called BASH came over. I knew him and we chatted about this and that. After a while he told me that he stopped writing and asked me if I want to take over his name. For me it was an honor and I said yes. To make a difference between the old and the new BASH I decided to put a dot between B and A so that´s why it´s call B.ASH which also sounds like a normal name.
¿Qué te motivó para empezar a ser un escritor de graffiti?
What motivated you to get started being a graffiti writer?
En 1995, un amigo mío me habló de alguien que podía diseñar letras y palabras de forma que solo él pudiera leerlo. Su nombre era STEEM y era parte de un equipo de skaters en Magdeburgo. Cuando me uní a este grupo de skaters, lo hice saber después de un tiempo y nos hicimos buenos amigos. Hasta ese momento no sabía mucho sobre el graffiti. Un día me mostró su libro negro y quedé completamente fascinado. La forma en que diseñó su nombre STEEM realmente me dejó alucinado y supe que también quería convertirme en un escritor de graffiti.
In 1995 a friend of mine told me about someone who could design letters and words in a way that only he could read it. His name was STEEM and he was a part of a skater crew in Magdeburg. When I joined this skater crew I got him to know after a while and we became good friends. Until that time I didn’t´t know so much about graffiti. One day he showed me his black book and I was completely fascinated. The way he designed his name STEEM really blew me away and I knew I wanted to become a graffiti writer too.
¿Cuál es tu estilo?
What is your style?
Mis letras están de mal humor, sin ajustar y, a veces muy raras. La individualidad y el carácter son más importantes para mí que agradar a alguien o seguir la tendencia. Cada pieza que pinto refleja las circunstancias reales de mi vida. El conocimiento, la improvisación y la variedad son los fundamentos de mi forma de pintar.
My letters are moody, unadjusted and sometimes very strange. Individuality and character are more important to me than pleasing someone or following the trend. Every piece I paint reflects the actual circumstances of my life. Know-how, improvisation and variety are the keystones of my way of painting.
¿Nos podrias contar como es un dia normal en tu vida durante tu semana?
Would you mind telling us how is your normal day during the week?
Tengo un trabajo ordinario como diseñador de UX, así que creo conceptos de interacción y diseños visuales para software, aplicaciones y sitios web. Además de eso, tengo una hija pequeña con la que paso mucho tiempo. Por lo general, me levanto por la mañana, voy al trabajo, recojo a mi hija de la guardería por la tarde y luego el día casi ha terminado. Así que no queda mucho tiempo para el graffiti, que también es una razón por la que solo pinto de 12 a 20 piezas por año. Pero estoy feliz con eso. El graffiti es parte de mi vida, pero ya no es lo más importante.
I have an ordinary job as a UX Designer, so I create interaction concepts and visual designs for software, apps and websites. Beside that I have a little daughter I spend a lot of time with. So usually I get up in the morning, go to work, pick up my daughter from the kindergarten in the evening and then the day is almost over. So there is not so much time left for graffiti, which is also a reason why I only paint 12-20 pieces per year. But I´m happy with that. Graffiti is a part of my life but not the most important anymore.

Where would you like to paint?
Honestamente, el lugar donde pinto es menos importante para mí. Mientras pueda centrarme en mis cosas, todo estará bien. A principios del año 2000, pinté en algún festival de graffiti (por ejemplo, Write 4 Gold) y no me gustó. No me gusta que la gente me mire cuando estoy pintando. Para mí, pintar es una especie de meditación y no me funciona sin tener un enfoque claro.
Honestly the place where I paint is less important to me. As long as I can focus on my stuff, everything is fine. In the early 2000er I painted on some graffiti jams (e.g. Write 4 Gold) and didn’t´t like it. I don´t like people staring at me when I´m painting. For me painting is some kind of meditation and it doesn’t work without having a clear focus.

Soy miembro de dos crews: TIEFSILO e IBA.
IBA se fundó en 1995/1996 como un equipo de skaters / graffiti con 6 miembros (STEEM, SOIR, SHER, FAT GIRL MAIK, TUROK y yo). La crew estuvo activa hasta 2000 y se reactivó en 2017. Los miembros de hoy son FAT GIRL MAIK y yo.
TIEFSILO fue fundada en 1999 como FNS Crew con tres miembros (JETY, TUROK y yo). Desde 2003 se llama TIEFSILO. Los miembros de hoy son PARK (Magdeburg), TUROK (Berlín), JUNEK (Stuttgart / Viena) y yo.

IBA was founded in 1995/1996 as a skater/graffiti crew with 6 members (STEEM, SOIR, SHER, FAT GIRL MAIK, TUROK and I). The crew was active until 2000 and reactivated in 2017. Today´s members are FAT GIRL MAIK and I.
TIEFSILO was founded in 1999 as FNS Crew with three members (JETY, TUROK and I). Since 2003 it´s called TIEFSILO. Today´s member are PARK (Magdeburg), TUROK (Berlin), JUNEK (Stuttgart/Vienna) and I.
